SUMMARY:Waiting for New Wineskins
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row ct_row_stretch=””][vc_column][vc_column_text]\nSession 1 | June 3 |  9:00 am – 1:00 pm\nCost: $25 \nLocation: Calvary Lutheran Church\, Golden Valley \n(SAVE THE DATE: Aug 19 | Session 2 | Location TBA) \n  \nAmerican Christianity is at pivotal moment. The broader evangelical movement is fractured and disoriented\, and while many churches are navigating these pressures faithfully\, the demands on leaders are immense and the challenge of forming and discipling congregations has never been greater. \nAt the root of this crisis is an ecclesial identity that has been shaped more by the nation-state and the market than by Scripture. For centuries\, the Protestant church has resisted the biblical call to live as exiles in the world — and that resistance has deformed both how we understand the church and how we understand the pastor’s calling. \nPartnering with Dr. Joel Lawrence and the Center for Pastor Theologians\, we invite you to this collaborative learning series — aimed at orienting us theologically to the moment we are in and beginning to imagine a new way of being the church. \nOur first gathering on June 3 will take up the question at the heart of this crisis: Who are we\, and how did we get here? Drawing on Scripture and the tradition\, Dr. Lawrence will lead us through an examination of the church’s ecclesial identity as the Body of Christ — exploring the historical forces that have deformed that identity\, and what it might look like to recover it. Teaching will be followed by structured conversation\, guided by Rev. Michele Arndt\, giving pastors space to reflect together on what this means for their own congregations and calling. \n  \n  \n  \n*The cost of this event includes coffee\, snacks\, water\, and lunch\, all of which will be provided. If you are able to contribute $25\, we ask that you do so during registration. Scholarship options are also available for those who are unable to pay\, and you will see that option on the registration page. We do not want cost to be a barrier to attending this event. Thank you—we truly value and appreciate your integrity.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row ct_row_stretch=””][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row ct_row_stretch=””][vc_column][vc_tta_tabs style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”black” active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”Registration” tab_id=”1562163641168-5bc3330e-434f”][vc_column_text]\nREGISTRATION \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”Click Here to Register for June 3″ color=”green” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwaiting_for_new_wineskins.eventbrite.com|target:_blank”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Speakers | Teachers” tab_id=”1562163491765-eb018353-b2e8″][vc_column_text]\n \nJoel Lawrence | Dr. Joel Lawrence (PhD\, Cambridge) serves as the president of the Center for Pastor Theologians. SUMMARY:A Community of Belonging: Sexuality & Gender Beyond Personal Identity
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row ct_row_stretch=””][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n Community of Belonging: Sexuality & Gender Beyond Personal Identity\n \nFebruary 22\, 2024  |  9:00 am – 4:00 pm \nCalvary Lutheran Church \n7520 Golden Valley\, Golden Valley\,  MN  55427 \nCan we as a church have a new conversation about sexuality and gender? Can we follow the truth of Christ without leaving stragglers to fend for themselves in search of identity and belonging? To discover the truths about sexuality and gender and to heal our communities\, we need to rediscover the longings for connection with God and each other that are embedded not just in our souls\, but in our very bodies.  \nAt this one-day conference\, topics will cover a span of what sexuality and gender mean in the life of the church\, including the theological and communal significance of the body\, the flourishing of women in church and society\, Christian belonging for singles and sexual minorities\, as well as a diverse set of practical workshops by local-leaders on topics like desire\, purity\, community\, and kinship.  \nWe hope to reimagine and revive the Church’s witness as a healthy and flourishing family that looks increasingly like Jesus!   \nRegister Now!    \nToday through December 31\, 2023  $95 \nJanuary 1\, 2024 – February 15\, 2024 $109 \nBring your team!  Buy 3 Get 1 Free[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row ct_row_stretch=””][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row ct_row_stretch=””][vc_column][vc_tta_tabs style=”modern” shape=”square” color=”black” active_section=”1″][vc_tta_section title=”Speakers” tab_id=”1562163491765-eb018353-b2e8″][vc_column_text]\nSPEAKERS \n  \nDr. Greg Coles|  Senior Research Fellow for The Center for Faith\, Sexuality & Gender \nGreg is the author of Single\, Gay\, Christian: A Personal Journey of Faith and Sexual Identity (IVP\, 2017) and No Longer Strangers: Finding Belonging in a World of Alienation (IVP\, 2021). What insights can we learn from relationships in Christian tradition\, like David and Jonathan\, about love and commitment? And\, what does this mean for our own conversations around covenant brotherhood/sisterhood\, celibate communities/partnerships\, and committed friendships? This presentation will explore the anthropological and historical evidence we have regarding covenant brotherhood\, covenant sisterhood\, and committed friendships throughout the global Christian tradition. Through exploring such past and present relationships\, this session will provide a broad summary of the topic as well as explore what questions churches can be asking around these types of kinship.\n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \nBuilding Households of Belonging as Brothers and Sisters\nDavid Frank & Elena Fultz\, Seed House Community\nJoin David & Elena for a practical workshop on the theology of households and how to help start/build/strengthen them. As we think through the relationship between community and households\, expect to gain a vision for creating Christ-centered households that cultivate mutual belonging and shared spiritual life. We (David and Elena) started Seed House\, an intentional Christian community house\, to foster community living in East Phillips\, Minneapolis\, and we are eager to share how God has used it in the lives of straight and non-straight men and women\, and what components have been critical in sustaining shared life together. By God’s grace\, we hope to see a deepening of relational and spiritual health in our churches through a renewal of households.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \nFacilitating Environments of Repentance in the Church\nPaul Klassen\, Broken Strength Ministries\nGod has called His church to make disciples in this world and has called us to not love the world.  In a culture and world where sexual images and messages seem to dominate the landscape\, how can the church attack the gates of hell while not falling prey to worldly sexual desires?  This workshop will look at the biblical call of ongoing repentance\, develop discussion around current practices\, and suggest practical ways to promote it in the area of sexual integrity.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text] \n Longing\, Integrity\, Community and Choice\nAnna Carter\, Eden Invitation\n\nIn this workshop\, Anna explores the methods and foundations that are key for the discipleship of Christians with LGBTQ+ experiences.  We will look at what it is like to go beyond the LGBT paradigm to encounter the human person in all they are-experientially and ontologically.\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Registration” tab_id=”1562163641168-5bc3330e-434f”][vc_btn title=”Click Here to Register” color=”green” size=”lg” align=”center” button_block=”true” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.com%2Fe%2F743690798197%3Faff%3Doddtdtcreator|target:_blank”][vc_column_text]\nREGISTRATION \n\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Location” tab_id=”1562163503398-0ef6611c-7241″][vc_column_text]\nLOCATION \nCalvary Lutheran Church \n7520 Golden Valley\, Golden Valley\,  MN  55427 \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”FAQ” tab_id=”1627919937344-09b1ebee-30c9″][vc_column_text]\n\nI registered for the event\, and now I am unable to attend\, can I get a refund?  Can I give my ticket to a co-worker or friend?\n\n\nFor cancellation requests at least thirty (30) calendar days before the registered event\, you will receive a FULL refund.
