Transform Ideas: The Timeless Call for Racial Harmony

April 27 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Topic: The Timeless Call for Racial Harmony

“The Timeless Call for Racial Harmony” will address the history of race and the sin of racism in America, pieces of our present day situation, and a future hope rooted in the Church’s call to move forward with reconciliation and unity in the Kingdom of God. The Church’s call is to seek unity and healing following America’s abhorrent history of slavery, segregation and racial injustice. Join us as we continue this much-needed dialogue on race relations, poverty, and education in our nation and churches today.

Dr. Charles P. Morgan is CEO of Union Gospel Mission.  He served as Founder and Senior Pastor of Resurrection Life Fellowship, a non-denominational Christian Church located in Westchester, California, for 33 years.  Concurrent with his pastoral ministry, he was Vice President of Program at the Los Angeles Mission. Dr. Morgan hails from Thibodaux, Louisiana. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California, Doctor of Theology from Antioch Christian University, and Master of Science Degree in Marriage and Family Terapy from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has committed his life to the development of church leadership, and the equipping of the saints to effectively exist, as dedicated Christians, in a Post Christian society.

Dr. Danita Brown Young is the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of Students at the University of Minnesota. She leads an organization of 17 units that provide services, programs, and facilities that advance student success, inspire students to make life-long positive contributions to society, promote an inclusive environment, and enrich the University of Minnesota community. Previous to her time at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Brown Young served as the youngest and first African-American (and first African American woman) Dean of Students at Purdue University. Dr. Brown Young received her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University and her B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from Kent State.

Russ Gregg and his wife, Phyllis, moved into the inner-city of Minneapolis, 26 years ago. Confronted by the urban education crisis, Russ co-founded Hope Academy, a K—12, faith-based school, that is helping 475 high-poverty, “at-risk” students beat the odds, close the achievement gap, and achieve success beyond their wildest dreams. Russ is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and of his many responsibilities, he regards none as more important or more satisfying as teaching the Scriptures each week to his class of 75 first graders. Russ is an elder at Jubilee Community Church, and he also serves on the national board of the Society for Classical Learning.

LaToya Taris-James was born and raised in North Minneapolis, and is still an active resident in the northside community. Member to Community Covenant Church, LaToya has formerly served as a Council member, Youth Director and worship leader in the church. Currently, LaToya is a Program Director at the Urban Ventures Leadership Foundation, where she manages a partnership with Minneapolis area Young Life. LaToya’s passions include music, writing, mentoring & discipleship, and athletics.
