Multiple bills signed into law at the end of this legislative session are bringing significant changes to Minnesota’s employment law landscape for all employers, including churches and ministries. Churches and ministries must be prepared to comply with these changes, including updating existing policies, employee handbooks, and workplace rules, as many new laws or modifications become effective on July 1, 2023. Examples of these changes in the law include:

  1. Statewide paid sick and safe time;
  2. Enhanced protections and accommodations for pregnant women and nursing mothers (in addition to new Federal protections);
  3. Legalization of recreational marijuana and create major changes to Minnesota’s Drug and Alcohol Testing in the Workplace Act;
  4. Expansion of parental leave;
  5. Prohibition on mandatory employer-sponsored meetings related to unionization, political, or religious topics (no exception for churches or religious employers);
  6. Paid Family and Medical Leave; and
  7. Prohibition on all non-compete agreements with employees or independent contractors.

Transform Minnesota is hosting a virtual 2-part series to help you navigate these changes in your workplace. Part 1 will focus on immediate changes going into effect this summer. Part 2 will be held this fall and focus on changes going into effect on January 1.

This registration is for part 1 only.  Those who pay for registration will be sent the recording of the webinar.  Watch our events page for Part 2 registration.
