Learning to Disagree: The Surprising Path to Navigating Differences with Empathy and Respect
April 21, 2024 | 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Location: Christ Presbyterian Church
Are you discouraged by our divided, angry culture, where even listening to a different perspective sometimes feels impossible? In a tense cultural climate, is it possible to disagree productively and respectfully without compromising our convictions? Disagreement is hard: we tend to view our adversaries not only as wrong but as evil; we resist notions of forgiveness; we distrust institutions that try to mediate our disagreements. But what if a better way was possible?
Please join us for a dialogue with John Inazu and Sara Groves about John’s new book, Learning to Disagree: The Surprising Path to Navigating Differences with Empathy and Respect. John is a law professor at Washington University in St. Louis. Sara is an award-winning singer-songwriter and co-founder of Art House North in St. Paul. John and Sara collaborated on the 2020 volume, Uncommon Ground: Living Faithfully in a World of Difference (Thomas Nelson)
Dessert reception to follow.
