Most Minnesotans are aware that our state ranks at the very bottom nationally in terms of education equity and performance. Prior to Covid-19, zip code, income, and ethnicity already played a significant role in determining where students landed in the existing achievement gap. This disadvantage has only been exacerbated with the introduction of distance learning, required home technology, and dependence on a strong support system at home. Covid-19 protocols, in more ways than one, are geared towards privileged middle- and upper-class families.

Join us for a webinar with Dr. Nicole Baker Fulgham, President of the Expectations Project, as she sheds light on the pre-existing education gap in Minnesota, and how the pandemic has multiplied this issue. Dr. Baker Fulgham will address the ways in which we can ensure best practices are put in place to mitigate current and future damage in our school systems.

SPEAKER

DR. NICOLE BAKER FULGHAM  |  THE EXPECTATIONS PROJECT

A Detroit native, Nicole graduated from the University of Michigan and joined Teach For America (TFA) where she taught 5th grade in Compton, CA. Nicole received her doctorate in education from UCLA with a focus on urban education policy and teacher preparation. She joined the national staff of TFA and held several key leadership roles before starting The Expectations Project. Nicole has written two books: Educating All God’s Children (Baker) and Schools in Crisis(Barna) and has appeared on CNN and ABC. Christianity Today named her one of, “50 Women Leaders Influencing the Church and Culture”. She lives near DC with her husband and their three children.
