Trauma Healing Initial Facilitator Training

The cost of the Trauma Healing Initial Facilitator Training is $149.

The Trauma Healing Initial Facilitator Training is for those who wish to be trained and certified as facilitators. Facilitators will be trained in biblical and mental health principles related to trauma care. The trauma healing facilitator training is designed to be experiential and participatory.  

Certification as a trauma healing facilitator is based on demonstrated skills in the five core competencies: 

  1. Able to facilitate in a participatory way  
  2. Able to work on a team  
  3. Able to help traumatized people  
  4. Knowledge of the materials 
  5. Able to manage personal well-being.  

*While certification is not a guarantee, most people will gain valuable skills in trauma care for both themselves and others through attending this training.  

Necessary Qualifications: 

  • Must have completed participation in a Healing Group 
  • Able to attend each day of the training (certificates will only be granted to full attendees)   
  • Fluent in English   
  • At least 18 years old   
  • Committed to help trauma survivors and able to dedicate 2 weeks per year to trauma healing   
  • Able to teach others, manage own wellbeing, work on a team, and learn to lead groups in a participatory way   
  • It is suggested, but not required, that you attend the training with someone else from your organization, church, or area with whom you could co-lead healing groups in the future (if certified)

RACHEL UTHMANN |  TRAUMA HEALING FACILITATOR WITH AMERICAN BIBLE SOCIETY

Rachel‘s 20 years of work with refugees and other displaced people in Europe and North America has given her a passion for caring well for 
people who have survived deep pain and loss. In search of tools for ministry, Rachel became a facilitator of American Bible Society’s trauma 
healing program shortly after moving to the Twin Cities five years ago. 

As she continues to puts down roots in Minnesota, Rachel is eager to see churches and ministry leaders equipped to respond to the needs of our community. Rachel currently serves as the Director of Training with IAFR (International Association for Refugees) and is also the Trauma Healing Coordinator for the American Bible Society in the Twin Cities. 

MARIA MATTHYS|TRAUMA HEALING FACILITATOR WITH AMERICAN BIBLE INSTITUTE

Maria has a foundation in business administration and marketing and continued her coursework in theological studies, as well as communications and small group development. Engaged in ministry for over 30 years in various capacities, she continues to work as a small group facilitator, offering support to adults facing challenges such as grief, trauma, abuse, financial struggles, and special needs parenting. Her roles extend to advocate, speaker, mentor, lay counselor, fundraiser, and world missions coordinator. In youth and children’s ministry, Maria held multiple positions, with her most recent focus area being educating churches on how to better support parents who have children and youth with emotional, mental, and developmental challenges. Her passions center around continuous personal and godly growth, cultivating a lovingly transformative culture within the Body of Christ, and building meaningful connections in Christian community.

BRIAN C HERRON|SENIOR PASTOR, ZION BAPTIST CHURCH & TRAUMA HEALING FACILITATOR

Brian C Herron, Sr. is the pastor of Zion Baptist Church in North Minneapolis. Pastor Herron is a Trauma Healing Facilitator with the Trauma Healing Institute, a Mental Health First Aide Instructor for Youth and Adults, and a Trauma Trainer with the Sidran Institute. He is also one of the founders of the Healing Place at Zion Baptist Church and is a co-founder of The Wellness Collaborative, a group of organizations committed to working collectively to help heal our community.

Pastor Herron is married to Rhonda Bell-Herron and they have eight children, a host of grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is active in the community and is a fearless advocate for justice and racial reconciliation.
