How the Church can be Inclusive While Being Faithful to a Biblical Sexual Ethic
In this session, Dr. Preston will help church leaders think clearly, consistently, and biblically about policies regarding membership, baptism, communion, service, and leadership for LGBTQ people. How can the church be inclusive while remaining faithful to a biblical sexual ethic? And, how are these policies and practices consistently applied to other areas like divorce, re-marriage, and cohabitation before marriage?
Transgender Identities and the Church
Dr. Sprinkle will equip us to engage with the transgender community with love and compassion while staying rooted in a biblical theology of gender and sexuality.
Millions of gay and trans* people have grown up in our churches, and many of them have left due to shame, ridicule, and dehumanization. “I’ve never met a Christian who was kind to me,” From Embodied; Transgender Identities, The Church and What the Bible Has to Say
We will discuss complex questions and practical applications:
· Is it possible for someone’s gender to be different from their biological sex?
· Are the Gender Affirmative Model and Conversion Therapy the only options for someone who is transgender?
· Should Christians use someone’s preferred gender pronouns?
The Future of Sexuality
Society is rapidly defining gender, sexuality, and marriage in opposition to the biblical design that God intended. It is critical that we continue to promote a Christian vision for sexuality as the best option in a relevant way. Drawing from years of dialogue and cultural observation in the field of human sexuality, Dr. Sprinkle will discuss what he believes will be likely trends and issues and suggest ways to anchor our teaching in Biblical truth.
