In late August, nearly 300 people from five churches participated in the third annual CityServe event in Bloomington. Transform Minnesota helped launch CityServe in 2012 as a way to help churches collaborate together in ministry.

This year, volunteers assisted with nearly 40 projects at parks, schools, homes and nonprofit businesses. Organizers developed a plan to pray/walk/bike every street in Bloomington leading up to the August 23 event.

“CityServe is a great example of what churches can do when they partner together and address the needs in their communities,” said Carl Nelson, president and CEO of Transform Minnesota. “We’d love to see other cities and communities across the Twin Cities—and the state—adopt a similar attitude of meeting the needs of their neighbors.”

Volunteers helped single parents with home projects and changed oil on cars for more than two dozen people. Various home projects were referred to CityServe volunteers from the city of Bloomington, and nonprofits received a variety of help with their businesses.

The goal of CityServe is to shine the light of Christ in Bloomington as volunteers work on numerous projects—hoping that opportunities arise to share Christ.

CityServe is planning another day of service on Saturday, Oct. 25.
