Redeeming the Culture: Equipping Men and Women to Advance Good
One of the core commitments of Transform Minnesota is to connect and equip evangelicals so they can bring gospel transformation to their communities. It’s a commitment deeply rooted in the mission of Jesus: bringing personal transformation that ultimately impacts surrounding cultures and communities.
For several years, Q Ideas—and its events Q Commons—has been embracing this idea of cultural renewal and has taken its message around the country. Gabe Lyons, co-founder of Q Ideas, believes Christians must take a leading role in renewing and restoring culture—a task he believes is our historic responsibility.
The organization, according to its website, explores these topics as they relate to four broad themes: culture, future, church and gospel.
“As we continue to work through these ideas on a deeper level, so grows our commitment to equipping innovators, social entrepreneurs, entertainers, artists, church-shapers, futurists, scientists, educators, historians, environmentalists and everyday people to do extraordinary things,” according to the website.
On Thursday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina, Q Commons comes to the Twin Cities. With a mix of national and local speakers, the event will connect tens of thousands of Christians across the country as they learn how to understand cultural issues and devote themselves to doing good.
Each speaker will talk for approximately nine minutes, followed by open conversations nationally and in each local venue.
National speakers
Gabe Lyons; Tim Keller, pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York; Andy Crouch, executive editor of Christianity Today; Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts; and others.
Local speakers
V. J. Smith, CEO and president of Mad Dads of Minneapolis, who will talk about how peace will not occur without us being present. Nekima Levy-Pounds, professor at the University of St. Thomas School of Law, will address how people who occupy places of privilege and influence can work with marginalized people for the common good. Finally, Terry Esau, author, speaker and founder of Free Bikes 4 Kidz, will use his personal experiences to address the need for creative compassion.
Tickets for the event are $29.00 and can be ordered by visiting www.qcommons.com/twincities.
“It’s easy for us to lament the notion that culture is disintegrating around us,” said Carl Nelson, president and CEO of Transform Minnesota. “Q Commons will bring together national and local practitioners of ‘good’ and teach us how to take the message and mission of Jesus back into our specific avenues of influence. We don’t have to lament the perceived cultural disintegration; we can play a major role in its redemption.”
