In order for your compelling mission to be heard by donors, clients, and the public, you must have an effective communication strategy. Sharon Sampson, CEO of Open Book Communications, will present on the importance of “Why?” :

“Non-profits have the importance of clarifying and personifying their unique mission and story. Getting to their “WHY”—both why they do what they do, and why their audience should care—and embedding that in everything. Stakeholders need to be equipped with a simple way of understanding “what do you do” and “what difference does it make.” That has to be more than a list of programs or outputs. It has to drive deeper to mission and outcomes that make donors/stakeholders feel part of something larger than themselves.”

After graduating from Princeton University, she spent more than 15 years working across non-profit, for-profit, and government sectors, including five years as a Vice President at a public relations firm in New York City. But after relocating to the Twin Cities, she wanted to combine her leadership in public relations, communications strategy, and creative direction into a business  focused on helping organization
s that do great work to engage more people in their mission. She chose the name Open Book to reinforce our own mission: to invite people into your story. Open Book Communications has worked with missions of all sizes: community-based nonprofits to national movements, national retail brands to church capital campaigns, start-up businesses to national events with 10,000+ in attendance. In every project, our commitment is the same: to provide hands-on leadership, breakthrough creativity, and strategic solutions that elevate brands, clarify messaging, and mobilize engagement.
