Jesus in the Secular World
Transform Minnesota, in partnership with Steiger International, hosted a sold-out Jesus in the Secular World workshop for more than 75 pastors and ministry leaders at CrossPoint Church on October 25th. Aaron Pierce, International Mission Director for Steiger, spoke to the group about engaging an increasingly post-Christian culture with the message of the Gospel.
Pierce began by explaining the post-Christian culture shift taking place in the United States, especially in the Millennial and Gen Z generations, and changes required for reaching the culture with the Gospel. Pierce laid out how younger generations are open to conversations about Jesus and spirituality. They’re hungry for connection, relationship, and engagement, but are suspicious of the church and aren’t likely to engage with the institution.
“We’re not going to go where they are until our heart is broken, because to the extent which our heart is broken is the extent we’re going to do something about it.”
Pierce encouraged participants to approach the culture as though they are missionaries in their own cities, to learn about the philosophies and influences of the new generations in order to speak a language they will understand. “We’re not going to go where they are until our heart is broken, because to the extent which our heart is broken is the extent we’re going to do something about it.”
Participants were able to pray together, discuss the content, and work through practical ways to engage the culture. “This is life changing information,” one participant remarked. “This changes everything I thought about the younger generation and how I want to engage with them.”
Transform Minnesota is excited to host another event with Steiger International, Spiritual Conversations for the Non-Religious, early next year.
