HOLY SEXUALITY IN TODAY’S WORLD

How can the church teach and live out grace and truth in regard to sexuality? How can we offer a vision of holy sexuality – anchored in the historic Christian position – and lead effective, compassionate ministry to the myriad of individuals in our society?

On April 7 Transform Minnesota & Bethel University will host a church summit to learn about and discuss a Biblical theology of sex, issues of same-sex attraction,  transgenderism, and pastoral ministry to LGBT persons. Presenters include evangelical scholar and psychologist Mark Yarhouse, Biblical scholar Paul Eddy, and a panel of evangelical pastors and practitioners.

Transform Minnesota believes that sex is a good gift from God and that male and female genders reflect the image of God (read more). We believe it is important for pastors and Christian leaders to be equipped with a vision for sexuality and relationships that honors God and leads to human flourishing. The world is writing its own script to answer questions about sex, gender and relationships. The church must learn to minister with grace-filled love and compassion, pointing people towards a vision of holy sexuality that is anchored in God’s created intentions for humanity, and through the power of the Holy Spirit enables all of us to live lives of sexual holiness.

Yarhouse_2013MARK YARHOUSE, Psy.D. is professor of psychology at Regent University and founder of the Institute for the Study of Sexual Identity (ISSI). He is a committed evangelical Christian who is highly regarded as an expert in issues dealing with sexual and gender identity. He is author of Homosexuality and the Christian and Understanding Gender Dysphoria.

“We must remember that the transgender and broader LGBT community are attractive because they answer the bedrock question, “Where do I belong?” Most churches want to be a community where people suffering from any “dysphoria” will feel they belong, for the church is, after all, a community of broken people saved by grace.” – Dr. Mark Yarhouse, in his article Understanding the Transgender Phenomenon in Christianity Today.
