Employment Law Changes Affecting Churches

Last Tuesday, more than 100 participants joined us for our Minnesota Employment Law Changes webinar. Virginia Cronin, an attorney who primarily represents faith-based organizations, focused on a wide-ranging set of laws and amendments going into effect during the 2023 calendar year.

Cronin was able to provide nuanced explanations for why some regulations now apply to religious organizations and churches. She also outlined how participants will need to navigate differences between state law, federal law, and local ordinances.

With changes beginning as early as July 1, Cronin stated that organizations will need to revisit and update employee handbooks and policies. She also suggested creating an internal checklist for when to review policies with existing employees. Participants were ultimately encouraged to seek out specific legal advice for how they should proceed as an organization.

Transform Minnesota will be hosting a second Minnesota Employment Law Changes webinar this fall to address further changes going into effect January 1, 2024. Watch our events page for further updates.
